Biography contributed by Geoffrey Gillon

Births Sep 1891 SLADEN Charles Ernest Conway 11b 473.

Many of the record pages on the NAA show his surname as Sladden.

Conway spans the boundaries of the counties of Denbighshire and Caernarvonshire.

The 1901 census for Main Street Larne, Antrim, Ireland shows the family living in County Antrim where Charles was at school. It also shows that he was born in Wales and not in Nottingham as stated by him at enlistment and also on all official records.

Alfred Ernest Sladen Head of Family 35 England

Catherine Sladen Wife,35 England

Edith Mary Sladen Daughter 8 Wales

Alfred Thomas Sladen Son 11 England

Charles Ernest Sladen  Son 9 Wales.

Charles served in the militia [United Kingdom, Militia Service Records, 1806-1915] and possibly in the British Army prior to emigrating to Australia. There is some suggestion that he served with Naval Forces and deserted from H.M.S. "Una" in Australia.

Next of kin-Sister, Grace Smith, 62 Unwins Bridge Road, St Peters, Sydney, New South Wales-which he gave as his own address. His will bequeathed his estate to her. She may not in fact have been his sister but his fiancee.
