William Joseph FORBES was born in Kyneton, Victoria in 1889.
In 1915 he was working at the Queenscliff Artillery unit as a storeman/labourer. He joined the AIF on 4/6/1915 at Queenscliff and was allocated to Australian Artillery.
His next of kin was his mother, Susan Margaret Forbes who lived in Macedon Street Sunbury.
He left Australia on 17/7/1915 aboard the HMAT Orsova and in France was transferred to the 36th Heavy Artillery Group.
He did suffer from illness during his enlistment and returned to Australia on 4/10/1918 and spent time in military hospitals before being discharged on 25/10/1920.
William married afer the war and they had two children, a boy and a girl.
William died at Box Hill on 2/5/1963.
