Private Allan Frances Roberts (Service No:2774) enlisted in the AIF on 27 August 1915, and was attached to 27th Battalion 6th Reinforcement on 27 October 1915 when he embarked with his Unit from Adelaide for the Middle East on board HMAT A24 Benalla. On 27 March 1916 Private Roberts was attached to 10th Infantry Battalion when he embarked from Alexandria for Marseilles. Private Roberts served on the Western front with 10th Infantry Battalion - he spent time at 1st Anzac Rest Station in 1916 with Shell Shock, was hospitalised with Influenza in 1918, and WiA on two occasions (1916 and 1918) in France. Private Roberts embarked on 19 February 1919 from England for Adelaide on board HT Orca, and was Discharged on 28 May 1919. He served in the ACMF in WWII as a Corporal (Service No:S212760) attached to 4 and 25/33 Garrison Battalions (SA) from 8 January 1940 to 9 February 1944. Son Stanley (Corporal; Service No:39800) served with the RAAF in WWII.

Allan was born in Malalla, South Australia in 1890, second of fourteen children of Joseph Henry Roberts (b1858 in Clarendon, South Australia) and Grace Burlington Wood (b1866 in Clifton via Burnside, South Australia). Joseph (a Blacksmith) and Grace married in 1888 at Shannon, and lived in Malalla, Long Plain, Nantawarra, Stockport via Hamley bridge and Wakefield, where theyr aised their family and Joseph was a Blacksmith.

Allan worked as a Farm Labourer in Owen and Wauraltee on the Yorke Peninsula before enlisting in the AIF in 1915. Following his Discharge, in Owen in 1919, Allan married Rose Winifred Adelaide Goldfinch (b1894 in Norwood, Adelaide, South Australia). Allan and Rose settled in Adelaide, where they raised their family and Allan worked as a Gardener, Motorman and Greengrocer. Rose died in 1966 and Allan in 1975.
