Ernest E HIGGINSON was born about February 1893 in Granville, Sydney, NSW.

Ernest Everard Chester Higginson, (Service Number 249) gave his ‘trade or calling’ upon his enlistment at Randwick on 27 August 1914 as ‘Porter in charge of transhipment of goods’. He was unmarried and gave his mother as next of kin.He served in the 2nd Battalion.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A23 ‘Suffolk’ on 18th October 1914. He was promoted to Sergeant and allotted to the 2nd Battalion on 1st January 1915. 

He was killed in action on 20th May 1915, at Gallipoli. He was 22 when he died. At first, he was buried in Browns Dip North Cemetery, Gallipoli, 500 yards S of Anzac Cove but his remains were later exhumed and re-interred in Lone Pine Cemetery, in plot 2, row D, grave 5.

Consequent of his death, his mother was sent the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal, and the Victory Medal for his service.
