On 11 August 1919 Charles married Elizabeth Harriett Rowland Stubbs nee List in the Shoreditch Registry Office, London, England. Registrar John W.C. Bricknell officiated.

Commenced return to Australia on 7 November 1919 aboard HT Marathon disembarking on 26 December 1919
