When the enemy barrage came down severely wounding the three drivers and three of the six horses in a G.S. Wagon. Pte Vass went to the assistance of the wounded men. Though severely shaken by the explosion of a shell, and despite the heavy shelling he succeeded carrying one drivers, who was least wounded, to safety a total of 450 yards.
