Martin joined the AIF in Adelaide on the 24 Jan 1916, No 12629, Unit A.A.M.C. 11th Field Ambulance, His occupation had been Porter with S.A.R. embarked Sth Aust 31 May 1916, Disembarked Davenport England 21 July 1916. Proceeded to France 21 Nov 1916. Wad hospitalised numerous times with illness, Scabies, Chilblains. Admitted to 27 General Hospital Le Treport France with Gas Poisoning 8 June 1917. Transferred to England 4 July 1917, Weymouth. Returning to Australia per HMAT A29 "Suevic" 27 Dep 1917, Disembarked 18 Nov 1917. Discharged 4th MD Medically Unfit, 3 Jan 1918. Service, 345 days, 172 days Abroad.
