Garnet was the eldest of two children of William Wolfgang Blab (b1862 in Rotz, Germany) and Florence Caroline Trott (nee Lemon; b1865 in Kent, England). William was a Joiner when he immigrated to New Zealand in 1883 on board the British Queen. He was a Cabinetmaker in Greymouth NZ when he was Naturalised in 1887. Florence (a Dressmaker) immigrated in 1890, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the Oraya. William and Florence married in Perth WA in 1895 where they settled - William worked as a Cabinetmaker and Florence as a Dressmaker. Florence died in 1912, and in 1926 William was Naturalised.
Garnet was working as an Electrician in Perth WA when he enlisted in the AIF in June 1915 (Service No:2861). He was previously a Signaller in the Militia (88th Infantry Battalion) and served as a Private with 16th and 48th Infantry Battalions, and as a Sapper with 4th division Signals. Garnet was Discharged in January 1918.
Returning to Perth WA, Garnet was an Electrician when he married Florence (Flo) Caroline Moss (b1901 in Perth, WA) - Flo was a Shop Assistant. The couple settled in Perth where Garnet was an Electrical Inspector with the Electricity and Gas Department. In 1942 Garnet enlisted in the ACMF (Captain' Service No:W82399) and was attached to 3 Battalion (WA) VDC when he was Discharged in October 1945.
Garnet and Flo remained in Perth WA where Garnet worked as an Electrical Inspector until his death in 1964. Flo died in 1971.
