The following article was printed the Ballarat Courier of 15 December 1917. "The relatives of Pte George Murray have been officially notified that he was killed in action in France on the 4th October 1917. The deceased, who was 21 years of age, was born at Allendale, and educated at the Christian Brothers' School, Skipton Street, Ballarat. He enlisted in Melbourne, and sailed with reinforcements to the 24th Battalion. The deceased was a brother of the late Pte Owen Murray and prior to enlisting was employed in Melbourne. The father of the two fallen soldiers was invalided home from the French front, and has since been discharged."

His older brother, 3860 Private Owen Murray 21st Battalion AIF was killed by shellfire at Pozieres when carrying rations on 29 July 1916, aged 28.
