Son of Annie and George Hougham Royes, of Karkahkeen Street, North Rockhampton. Sidney's father also served in the 26th Infantry Battalion during WW1 on the Western Front. Both men returned to Australia aboard the same ship "Chemnitz", embarking on 7 July 1919.
