Biography contributed by Evan Evans

From 52nd Battalion AIF

Pte Michael COLLINS was married to Ellen (nee Doble) when he enlisted in March 1916. He was on board HMAT A42 Boorara on 16 August with the 4th Reinforcements to the 52nd Bn. After arriving in England in October, he was sick in hospital with the mumps before proceeding to France in January 1917. Taken on strength with the 52nd on 15 January. He was given 28 days Field Punishment for misbehaving on a march in June. The next entry in his service record was killed in action. It appears that he was bringing rations up to the front line about 6am when he and Cyril Perrin were killed by a shell explosion.
