Notes from a conversation with Gwen Jones (Daughter of Pte Eb Jones 1406), 1 April 2017:

Thomas Henry Maag, service no. 5152, place of birth Brunswick, Vic., enlisted Melbourne, carpenter, 24 years 8 months, next of kin Julius Maag (father), 19 Mayfield Street, Coburg; dated 8/2/16; killed in action, Belgium, 20/9/17, 7th Battalion A.I.F. (late 8th Bn, A.I.F.); Tyne Cot Cemetery, Passchendale; M.C. Maag signs for Victory medal 1/3/23; Maria Maag signs for memorial plaque 3/2/23; M. Maag sign for memorial scroll 16/1/22 ‘Very pleased to receive same’; 2 identity disks returned and signed for by M. Maag 20/4/21 (address given as Mrs M.C. Maag, 19 Mayfield Street, Coburg, Vic.), notification to mother that son is buried at Tyne Cot British Cemetery, 5¼ miles East North East of Ypres, 21/12/20; confusion of spelling of surname, originally noted as Magg (although he signs as Maag); Maria Christina Maag, 19 Mayfield St., Coburg, noted as ‘Widowed Mother’ on War Pensions Act form, 13/12/17; will leaves estate to mother Mrs M.C. Maag, 6/7/17; pension claimed by Dagmar Maag, sister, 19 Mayfield Street, but rejected ‘Dependence not proved’, 18/12/17
