Private Alan Teasdale Stapledon

Private Alan Teasdale Stapledon was born on 5 February 1884 in Unley Park, South Australia, to Henry Stapledon and Sarah Hannah Lewis. He grew up in South Australia and later moved to Western Australia as a young adult. Alan enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 27 March 1916 at age 32, working as a gold prospector and listing his mother, Sarah, as his next of kin. He embarked from Fremantle aboard HMAT Miltiades on 9 August 1916 with the 44th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement, later transferring to the 34th Battalion on the Western Front. Due to medical reasons, his service ended on 4 May 1917 when he returned to Australia. Alan's dedicated service is commemorated with an AIF badge on his headstone at Enfield Memorial Park, and his name is honoured at St Margaret's Anglican Church in Woodville.
