Private Keith Russell Cambridge (Service No:3743) served in the Militia (Rider/Driver) with 41st Battalion prior to enlisting in the AIF on 30 August 1915 and was atatched to 2nd Infantry Battalion on 30 December 1915 when he embarked from Sydney for Egypt with his Unit on board HMAT A7 Medic. Private Cambridge served in Mustafa and Tel El Kebir  and embarked from Alexandria for Marseilles with 54th Infantry Battalion on 2 May 1916 on board HMS Kinfauns Castle. Private Cambridge served on the Western Front, where he was WiA (GSW leg) on 11 January 1917 and evacuated to hospital in England. He embarked from England for Sydney on 3 July 1917 on board HS Karoola and was attached to 45th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 26 February 1918.

Keith was born in Windsor, NSW in 1896, fifth of eight children of Thomas William Cambridge (b1860 in Sydney, NSW) and Alice Amelia Haslem (b1895 in Maitland, NSW). Thomas was thrid generation Letter Carrier/Mailman - following in his father's and grandfather's footsteps - and he and Alice married in 1886 in Windsor where they settled and raised their family and Thomas was a Letter Carrier/Mailman - delivering mail on horseback and well known for 'his unvarying courtesy and obliging nature' (Trove: Obituary 1942).

Keith passed the Public Service Exams in 1911, and stated his occupation was 'Farmer' in his Attestation Papers in 1915 when he enlisted in the AIF. Following his Discharge, Keith returned to Sydney and was working as a Wool Machinist  in Leichardt, Sydney in 1937 when he married Hilda Marion Smith (b1896). Keith and Hilda settled in Bondi, where Keith worked as a Machinist - he was a TPI War Pensioner when he died in 1964. Marion died in 1967.
