George Grant Gregory Ferguson was the son of John and Jane Ann Ferguson, of Brisbane St., Ipswich, Queensland.

His youngest brother, 2653 Private Vincent Alexander Ferguson 25th Battalion AIF had been returned to Australia in 1917 and died of wounds and illness in Ipswich on 2 June 1918.

George enlisted in Brisbane on 9 December 1914 and was placed in the 3rd Field Artillery as a driver. He served on the Gallipoli Peninsula, arriving in June 1915.

On 18 August 1916, he was mustered as a gunner in Pozieres, France and three days later he was killed in action.
