Wilfred Rupert HERRICK was born in 1896 in Port Melbourne, Victoria, Australia to parents Matthew and Ellen (née SCOTT) HERRICK. He married Mary McPHEE in 1924, and they had 4 children.

A coach builder and wheelwright by trade, Wilfred, who was known by his middle name of Rupert, enlisted in the AIF on 7th July 1915, and served three years on the battlefields of France, surviving a serious bout of pneumonia. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal for his service. He died in 1968, and is buried in the Springvale Botanical Cemetery, Victoria.
