Lieut. Eric N Haggar, who was killed in action in France on the 20th March ast, was a native of Sarsfield. He enlisted at Biarnsdale in March of 1915 and sailed from Melbourne on the 8th May of the same year. He was in Egypt for some months and then went to Gallipoli, where he remained until the evacuation. Afterwards he was in France for twelve months, where he gained the D.S.O. medal for devotion to duty and gallant service. He was mentioned in Sir Douglas Haig's despatches for excellent work under heavy fire. He has three brothers still serving in France.
