Son of Joshua Frederick and Constance Winifriede WALTHAM
RICHARD WALTHAM who was killed in action in France on 18th August 1916 was the son of Mr. J. F. Waltham. He was born in 1893 and was at the Preparatory School in 1904 and then went to Western Australia.
On arriving in Western Australia he went to Guildford Grammar School and then went on the land, and was farming when war broke out.
He enlisted in the 8th Battalion, and after being promoted to Corporal was sent to Egypt. There he formed one of the guard at the concentration camp for German and Turkish officer prisoners. Later on he was detailed as an escort for wounded men to Australia. He returned to Egypt at the beginning of 1916 and then crossed over to France.
He was killed while bringing in a wounded man from " No Man's Land," being shot through the head.
