Henry Gordon Lingenberg was the son of James and Francis Lingenberg. He was the second son born into a large family of 11 children, 5 boys and 6 girls.

Henry's youngest brother (and the second youngest sibling) V128221 Pte Ernest Lingenberg (/explore/people/636443),  joined he 39th Australian Infantry Battalion at the age of 33.

He died of wounds received in action on the Kokoda Trail on 31 August 1942.

His Army records report that he was buried at Eora Creek Hospital 1 September 1942 however his body was never relocated. Ernest is remembered at the Port Moresby War Cemetry Panel 7 and the Australian War Memorial position 68 in the Commemorative Area.
