Ross Valdar WHEATLEY (1900-1966)
Ross Valdar Wheatley OBE was born on 19th December 1900 at Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. He was the son of Frederick William Wheatley and Alice Ruth unknown.
He entered the Naval College on 31st December 1913, graduating as a Midshipman on 1st January 1919.
He married Frances Blaxland in 1927 at Woollahra, New South Wales.
Ross was appointed captain of HMAS Moresby on 11th April 1935.[5] During the Second World War, he was Naval Officer in Charge (NOIC) Townsville. In June 1950, he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
He retired from the Royal Australian Navy on 31st December 1953 as a Commander; following a strong career of forty years. He had been appointed Acting Captain in 1944.
Ross passed away, aged 65 years, in 1966 in Sydney's northern suburbs, New South Wales.
