Son of Hartley Wilfred and Pansy Ella Schmidt, of Hilton, South Australia.

Ord.-Seaman Alan Hartley Schmidt, 18, was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Schmidt, of Milner street, Hilton. His father served in World War 1 in  the 48th Battalion, and is now in a garrison battalion. Seaman Schmidt was educated at the Kangarilla School.
