Archie was born Archibald Darling GOULD on 7th April, 1898 in Hobart, Tasmania

His parents were Archibald James GOULD and Susan Stella CHAMBERLAIN

He enlisted on 2nd September 1915 with the Australian Army - he was with  the 12th Battalion, 12th reinforcements - Unit embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Orontes on 24th November, 1915

Archie was Killed in Action on 13th August 1916 - No Known Grave - he is commemorated at the Australian National Memorial, Villers Bretonneux, France, The Australian War Memorial & the Soldiers Memorial Avenue in Hobarts Queens Domain. His last posting was with the 52nd Battalion

His brother Reginald James GOULD (SN TX4522) was accidentally drowned in New Guinea during WW2 on 21st January, 1943

Archies Uncle Major George Darling Gould was also in WW1 and died of meningitis in Brisbane in June 1915 en route to the fighting.  He was buried in his hometown of Launceston.  Georges son Lieutenant George Frederick Gould won the Military Cross in France in 1917

Today we pause to remember the life and service of Private Archibald Darling Gould, who was killed in action at the Battle of Pozieres on the 13th of August 1916 at the age of 17. Originally from Hobart, Tasmania, Archibald enlisted with the 12th Battalion, 12th Reinforcements on the 2nd of September 1915.
