Francis COOMER was an early enlistee in August 1914 and embarked with the originals of the 12th Bn on HMAT A7 Medic on 2 November 1914. He was part of the Landing at Gallipoli and was wounded sometime during 25-28 April 1915. After the evacuation, he was transferred to the 52nd Bn. Promoted to 2nd Lt on 26 August 1916, just before he was seconded to the 13th Light Trench Mortar Battery. He was accidentally killed by a premature explosion of a bomb at the Second Army Grenade School of Instruction.
