Son of John and Ethel Harriett Gilbert, of Mile End, South Australia.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Gilbert, of Ebor avenue, Mile End, nave been in formed that their only son, F-Sgt. Max Gilbert, previously reported missing, died while a POW in Borneo on July 24, 1945. He was educated at the Woodville primary and high schools. He was employed at the Adelaide railway station pay office before enlisting

Shot down in Kittyhawk A29-1025 on the 7th of July while on a bombing and strafing mission near Kalabakan in Borneo - captured by Japanese troops and became a Prisoner of War - died on the 24th of July
