The eldest of four brothers to enlist. John was 38 years of age when he went missing at Fromelles. His younger brother, 3071 Pte. Claude Dewsnap 8th Battalion AIF, died of wounds in Belgium 28 October 1917. 4493 Lance Corporal George Peter Dewsnap, 2nd Field Company Engineers, was awarded the Military Medal in 1917 and returned to Australia in 1918. Also 21738 Sergeant Joseph Henry Dewsnap Australian Army Medical Corps, returned to Australia 23 July 1919.
