James Albert de Little Affleck, educated at Geelong Grammar School, where he was senior prefect in 1916, as such he planted an acorn, sent home from Gallipoli by Pte (later Captain) William Lempriere Winter Cooke (5th Battalion), of Murndal, Hamilton, beside the Chapel of All Saints, Geelong Grammar School, Corio, on the second anniversary (4 August 1916) of the declaration of war. The tree, a Gallipoli Oak (Quercus Calliprinus), now 109 years old in 2025, is listed on the Register of the National Estate. 38021 Gunner JA deL Affleck served with 102nd Howitzer Battery, 2nd FAB in France and Belgium. His first cousin 545 Tpr Henry Eric Whitehead (8th Light Horse Regiment) was killed at The Nek on 7th August 1915.
