"IN THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM..."
Major W. D. Matthew, son of Mrs. W. I. Muntz, of Goulburn, has been reported killed in action at Bougainville.
Major Matthew graduated at Duntroon and has been on active service since the war began. He saw service in Darwin, New Guinea and the Solomons. Word of his death on June 7 came yesterday.
He was a Sydney Grammar School boy and a University "blue" in boxing. He leaves a wife and two young children.
At the meeting of the Hospital board reference was made to the death of Major Matthew, and a tribute paid by members standing.
