Piercy disembarked Suez with the 11th Battalion in December 1914 and undertook training at Suez Camp. Piercy was wounded (1st Time) on the day of the landing at Gallipoli 25 April 1915 with a GSW to his left leg. He was transferred to Hospital Ship ‘Ascania’ and then to Malta. He was admitted to hospital with a fracture of the left fibula and then transferred per to England during August 1915. Piercy returned to Egypt with the MEF and re-joined his unit during January 1916. He was promoted to Lance Corporal before the 11th Battalion sailed for France in March 1916. Piercy was accidentally wounded (2nd Time) with contusion to his left hand caused by a bomb when instructing at the 1st Australian Bomb School in May 1916.

Piercy was wounded (3rd time) with GSW to face and back at Pozieres. He was transferred to the 3rd Casualty Clearing Station, then to the 3rd Stationary Hospital at Rouen. He was invalided back to England again and admitted to the Beaufort War Hospital Bristol. Following hospital discharge he was appointed 2nd Lieutenant then proceeded overseas to France. He joined the 16th Battalion on the 20 February 1917.

It was during this time with the 16th Battalion that Eric was decorated for bravery, earning the Commander in Chief ‘s Congratulatory Card 

Piercy was promoted to Lieutenant just after this battle. For his actions during a raid on the night of 15 June 1918, he was awarded the Military Cross. 

He was awarded a Bar to the Military Cross for his actions on the 8 August 1918.

Wounded (4th time)with a GSW to his thigh and right knee he was again invalided to England. He was discharged from Hospital in November. He embarked Portland per for Australia during March 1919.
