Served a three year jockey apprenticeship with Connelly's racing stable of Boulder, WA

On 19 May 1919 Thomas married Bessie Maud Ellis in St. Stephens Church, Lewisham, London, England. Curate C.D.B. Durand officiated. Bessie came to Australia but fate unknown

Commenced return to Australia 19 June 1919 aboard HT Windhuk disembarking on 7 August 1919
