Son of Arthut Quick and Catherine Quick nee Fannings of Carlton, Victoria. Arthur was later named as temporary next of kin following the death of Walter's wife as Walter's son was only fourteen years old..

Husband of Violet Beatrice Quick nee Harvey of Cecil Street, Fitzroy, Victoria. Walter and Violet married during 1903c. Violet died on 11 April 1918 while Walter was still serving overseas. 

Commenced return to Australia on 28 March 1919 aboard HT City of Poona disembarking on 14 May 1919
