Joseph Keane was born at Willunga and enlisted in Adelaide on 07 February 1916. He had married Jessie Hamilton in 1911.

He had four Brothers who also served Arthur, Frederick (KIA), Theodore, and Wilfred. Joseph embarked with the 4th/48th Infantry Reinforcements but ended up serving in France from 20 November 1916 with 27th Battalion. 

On 06 February 1917 he suffered a gunshot wound to his right arm and was evacuated to England.

He returned home on 20 October 1917 and, in January the following year claimed a pension for himself, his wife and three children (George, Enid and Sybil). After the war he lived at Reynella until his death on 19 June 1963 aged 80years.
