Stanley Septimus Swift was born on the 8th of March 1892 in Orroroo, SA. Stanley was the second eldest of his 5 brothers, only younger to his elder brother Leonard Bevan Swift born two years before him. The two of them, his other 4 brothers, Raymond Ralph Swift, Herbert James Swift, David Gray Swift, Victor Octavius Swift and his mother Mary Anness Swift all lived in their hometown of Edwardstown, SA.
On the 26th of November 1914, Stanley was the first of his brothers to enlist for the AIF in Oaklands, SA. On the 16th of April 1915, he joined the 4th Light Horse Field Ambulance, a role in which those medically trained travelled into the front line and even into No Man's Land to retrieve wounded soldiers for medical attention. Embarking on board the HMAT A30 Borda on the 23rd of June 1915 from Adelaide at the age of 23, Stanley was destined for a life of helping wounded soldiers in combat. On the 7th of March 1916, Stanley was transferred to join the 3rd Field Ambulance, and soon after left for France. Stanley worked with them until MAy 1917 when he became ill and was sent to England. In July 1917 he returned to Australia where the 19th of October 1917 he was discharged of his duties, ending his role in the war. Due to this, Stanley was able to get married on the 9th of March 1918 to Jean Swift. During this period, Stanley had three kids, Esther Jean Swift, Marion Joy Swift and Joan Anness Swift.
During the outbreak of WW2, Stanley enlisted once again on the 25th of June 1942 in Murray Bridge to become a private. On the 16th of October 1943, Stanley was discharged of his duties. On the 9th of February 1962 in Adelaide, SA Stanley was pronounced dead at the age of 69.
