John George Arthur Thorsteinsen was born in the year 1885 on October 20th, in Goolwa, South Australia. He grew up with his mother and father, whose names were Mrs. Annie Thorsteinsen and Mr. Edward Theodore Thorsteinsen. Before enlisting, he worked as a farmhand in Mannum, South Australia.
John enlisted in Adelaide, South Australia, on the 2nd of March 1916, he embarked on his journey from Adelaide, onboard the “RMS Mooltan” 24th August 1916. During World War One, he served with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment in the Middle East.
After returning home from the war in 1919 John went to live in Renmark, South Australia
John George Arthur Thorsteinsen also served in World War II, continuing his service for the Australian military. He enlisted on December 5, 1939, in Adelaide, South Australia, and was assigned to the 25th/33rd Garrison Battalion. John was a Private, with the service number S212733.
John passed away in 1958. His services to Australia's military history are commemorated on Mannum District Roll of Honour and Karoonda District Roll of Honour.
