George Hathaway only enlisted in January 1918 and only arrived at the front in France on 21 July 1918. He was mortally wounded only a month later died soon after in the 55th Casualty Clearing Station.
His older brother, 3756 Frederick Hathaway 13th Battalion AIF had died of wounds on 6 July, 1918, after the Battle of Hamel, aged 21.
They were the sons of Frederick and Harriet Hathaway, of Rockdale, New South Wales.
