21 Nov 1916: Honoured Military Medal, On the night 15th/16th October 1916, during a raid on the German trenches near Diependaal. He was in charge of a bombing section and displayed coolness and courage. Owing to being delayed by hostile wire, the only other member of his section to enter the hostile trench with him was Private CLARK, but without delay or hesitation they carried out the work detailed for the section to do. Next of kin given as his uncle J. Venables a School Teacher of State School, Dubbo, NSW later changed to his wife Mary McLeod Venables of Osterly, Middlesex, England

Commenced return to Australia on 15 September 1918 aboard HT Arawa disembarking on 17 November 1918 at Melbourne then overland to Sydney
