Brief Biography


Born in Hampshire, UK, he was 32 when he joined the 12th Battalion in Blackboy Hill WA on the 14 Sept 1914. At the time of enlisting he was an engine driver and his Aunt, who lived in the Kimberley South Africa was listed as his next of kin. He had already served in the Lighthorse in Africa.

He served in Gallipoli, France Egypt and did bomb training in the UK, where he became an instructor. In 1916 he was wounded whilst serving in the Dardanelles. He then rejoined on the 13 March 1916 as a member of the 1st Pioneers and served and fought throughout France and UK.

He was promoted throughout his service to corporal and ultimately upon his discharge to Lance Sergeant on 21 Sept 1918, returning to WA. What an amazing individual who asked how he was at his discharge, reported- "Feel good- no problems"
