Son of Albert Edward and Edith V LANG of 105 Grange Road, Lancaster, SA.  Educated at Welland Public and Woodville High Schools, Robert played football and was a member for Allenby Gardnes and West Hindmarsh Tennis Clubs.  He won the singles championship in 1938 and the men's doubls championship with his father and mixed doubles with his mother and was also runner-up in the Western District Championship.  He was a teacher in the Allenby Gardens Sunday School and secretary of the Endeavour Society and a lay preacher in the district.  Of a reserved and sincre disposition he was highly respected.  Employed at Harris Scarfe's for eight years and at the time of enlistment was a traveller and Assistant Manager at Port Pirie.  He enlisted in the RAAF in December 1941.
