Son of Percy Thomas and L.G. SAUNDERS of Glen Osmond Road, Glenguna, SA.  Educated at Glen Osmond Public School and Unley High School he was fond of sport and played tennis for the Parkside Baptist Church teams, and lacrosse for 5DN Club.  For four years he was a clerk for T.J.
