BARRETT.—Brian,aged 23 years, beloved third son of Mr. and Mrs. P. T.Barrett,of Hynam. Killed in action in New, Guinea on 27th August, 1943. "At Rest." 6938c The Narracoorte Herald (SA : 1875 - 1954)_Tuesday 14 September 1943p 2 Family Notices 

Brian was the descendant of Black Betty Thomas (Nuennone people of Tasmania) and Nathaniel Wallace Thomas

Nathaniel was a sealer who arrived in 1822 and Black Betty was an Aboriginal captive taken from Tasmania in 1819

They were Brian’s Great great grandparents.  He was the fourth generation of his family who was born on Kangaroo Island and until his branch left the Island they had a continuous line of living and working on the Island. 

One branch of this family still reside on the Island through his great grandmother Mary Seymour nee Thomas and William (Joe) Seymour.  This family descends from his great uncle Joseph Seymour a brother to his grandmother Emma Barrett (nee Seymour) .  This year makes 200 and 203 years of this family residing on the Island.
