Lance Cpl John Cruickshank Meddows, was a Lewis Gunner. He fought in France in 1916. He was wounded three times and gassed one. He returned to Australia in early 1919. He moved to Newcastle from Lane Cove in 1932, with his family. He eventually held the position of Chief Health Inspector of the Greater Newcastle Region. A position he held until,his death in 1957, at the age of 61. His ashes were placed in a wall at the Beresfield Crematorium.
