Adolph (Andrew) Walter Lott was born on the 6th of March at Kooringa near Burra, South Australia. His parents were called Carl Adolph Theodore and Amelia Louisa (nee Hodges). He had two sisters, and one brother who died in infancy, He received his initial education at Burra Boys' School, where he was enrolled on 24 January 1894. He attended Adelaide High School for his secondary education. Following the completion of his schooling, he completed teacher training and later worked as a teacher.
On 3 November 1914 at Semaphore's St Bede's Church, Lott married Adelaide Margaret Weetman, the elder daughter of Semaphore's Mrs. T. K. Weetman. The marriage ceremony was performed by Reverend Canon Swan and the newlyweds were toasted at a home celebration after their union was sealed.
On 25 March 1916, Lott enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force and joined the 43rd Infantry Battalion as a Captain. 9th June 1916, Captain Adolph Walter Lott departed Australia for England. He proceeded to France from Southampton 25th November 1916. Lott was promoted to Major on 19 April 1917.
Lott received a gunshot wound in the right thigh and right side 5th April 1917. While the battalion's official war diary for the day listed no casualties, on April 4 there was a note to the effect that an officer had been injured in some heavy shelling in the sector and that this could imply that Lott had been injured at the time. He was initially treated in France and then was transferred to England admitted to the 3 London General Hospital 13th July 1917 for further treatment. He was transferred to other hospitals to convalesce and returned to France 3rd November 1917 and rejoined the 43rd Battalion on the 8th November.
The following year in November he was treated for a fractured Scapula in France. In February 1919 he took leave in the UK and then prepared for return to Australia. Major Adolph Walter Lott returned embarked for Australia on March 23rd, 1919. He disembarked in Adelaide 21st May 1919 and his Commission was terminated 10th July 1919.
After the war Lott and his wife had two sons Basil Weetman (1920-1970) and Peter Ramsay (1923-1967). Adolph changed his name to Andrew 3rd December 1940. They lived at Westbourne Park and Lott was working as a teacher and a Horticulturalist. Lott's son Basil served as a Captain in Korea. Adolph Lott now using the given name Andrew, served in WW2 as a Major. He served in the Middle East during 1941. He returned to Australia and was attached for duty to the Loveday Internment Camp in Renmark where he served as the Commanding Officer.
Adolph(Andrew) Lott died 2nd February 1964. He has a commemorative plaque at Centennial Park Cemetery.
