John Glasgow Rudall was a soldier in the 3rd Brigade during World War 2, he was born in Gawler, 1920 and died on 28th december 1942. He was a member of the 2nd/10th Infantry Battalions in Guinea, he was the 2nd son of Hon. R. J. & Mrs Rudall, who were told that their only surviving son had died in action in New Guinea. He was 23 years old when he died, he was educated at St. Peter’s College and was studying at Roseworthy Agricultural College at time of enlistment.
John Rudall was nicknamed ‘Jake’ by friends and family, he had a brother named Peter, who was a seaman who was on board the H.M.A.S Sydney, he had perished on the H.M.A.S Sydney when an armed enemy raider fired a torpedo at the ship after sinking the raider in 1941.
John Glasgow Rudall currently lays at the Port Moresby (Bomana) Cemetery in Papua New Guinea. He is on the Adelaide WW2 Memorial Wall, Australian Roll of Honour, Gawler Council WW2 Honour Roll and the Gawler RSL Memorial Wall.
