Biography

Son of Charles and Jeannette Maria Young, of Adelaide, South Australia.

Pte. Victor L J Young 2/48th Reinforcements, AIF of 167 Sturt Street Adelaide. Aged 31. Son of Mr and Mrs C Young of Adelaide. Educated at Sturt Street Public School. Played football for Brunswick and West Adelaide Association teams. Had won several trophies for football. Member of Western District Athletic Club and had won several sprint and distance races and cups. Also won cup for 100 yards Amateur Run at Eight Hours' Day Sports, 1932. Worked in the bitumen gang for the Adelaide City Council for several years and left this to join the AIF, enlisting in July 1940. Killed in action on July 22 1942 taking part in attack at "Hill of Jesus". His uncle, Dvr. H J M Lynch fought in Boer War also in 10th Battalion in Great War 1914-18. His brother Bugler E A Young was a member if 1st AIF in Great War and served in various parts abroad.
