Pop Edis
John Henry Edis was born 18 November 1901 and died on 15 July 1972 when I was aged 11 years.
My Pop & Nan lived in a semi-detached house of 3 bedrooms and had 8 children, 5 boys & 3 girls. My Pop was a cook in the 2/27th Infantry Battalion and was sent to Palestine and the Middle East in 1940. Upon his return to Australia in 1942 he remained in the Army but didn't return overseas with his Battalion.
My memories of Pop were of the beautiful smells of freshly baked cakes, pies and pasties. We would walk to their house every couple of weeks for a visit and you would be able to smell the goods as soon as you entered the street. Pop died of a heart attack at Daws Road Hospital and was sadly missed by his family.
