Son of Mr and Mrs W HAGEAN, of Lyrup, River Murray, SA.  Educated at Loxton Public School he played football for Lyrup and River Murray teams for several years.  In civilian life he worked on fruit blocks at River Murray Settlements and from here he enlisted in March 1940.  Left Australia for the Middle East in October 1940 and saw service in Syria.  He returned to Australia in March 1942.
