Aka 'William' 'Bill' 'Sandy'

Born in Broken Hill, NSW. He enlisted in the AIF in October 1939 & was allocated S/No. SX384 as Private with the 2/10th Battalion

He served in England & the Middle East from May 1940, including the attack against the Italian garrison at Giarabub in March 1941, followed by defensive actions during the Siege of Tobruk

He returned to Australia in March 1942 & went to see service in Papua from October to December 1942 being detached for a time to 2/9th Battalion while they were engaged at Milne Bay

He again returned to New Guinea in May 1943 now with 2/1st Australian Guard Battalion (later re–designated 2/1st Australian Guard Regiment) & was attached to 18th Brigade in September for operations during the Finisterre Range Campaign

He returned to Australian in May 1944 & in February 1945 was taken on strength of B Company, 5 Platoon from the 18th Brigade

In June 1945 he arrived in Morotai & on the 21st he embarked for operations in Balikpapan, returning to Australia in November for discharge on the 27th

Sandy passed away in Adelaide on 30 August 1983 at age 68
