Biography

Pte Reginald C Smith 2/2nd AIF of 18 Twelfth Street Gawler, aged 23. Son of Mr and Mrs G H Smith of Gawler. Educated at Gawler Public and High Schools. Keen boxer, and took part in many bouts at Melbourne Stadiums. After joining AIF continued boxing and was successful on many occasions. En route to the Middle East he won the boxing tournament trophy being awarded by the Captain of the "Queen Mary". Worked at carpentering in civil life, joining up in May 1940. Left for Middle East in 1941 and took part in desert fighting. Was killed in action on 25th June 1941.
