Richard John Carter (no. 4684) 27th battalion, enlisted on 4 February 1916 in Adelaide, embarked 11 April 1916. Promoted Corporal 17 March 1917, Sergeant 4 August 1917, returned Australia 20 June 1919, discharged 4 August 1919.

The details provided are taken from the book "Stealth Raiders - a few daring men in 1918" written by Lucas Jordan, published 2017, refer to pages 125 to 129 and 264. Prior to the war he was a gardener of Marion SA. He enlisted 4 Feb 16 aged 18 years. Served with 27th Infantry Battalion, being promoted to the rank of Sergeant by the end of the war. He departed the UK for home 8th May 1919.

Richard John Carter was born in Reynella, South Australia. Once Richard graduated school he became an engineer. Richard and his mum (Jesse Margery Carter) grew up and lived in Marion, South Australia. Richard was still only 18 years old when he enlisted to go to war.
On the 4th of February 1916 Richard John Carter enlisted to go and join the war. The unit that Richard was in was 27th Infantry Battalion and the 12th Reinforcement.
