Nathanael John Aubrey GALAGHER was born in 1989 in Wee Waa, NSW

His parents were Wayne GALAGHER and Sally PHELPS

His lifelong ambition was to join the Army and become a commando which started when he joined the Army on 22nd October 2007 as a Rifleman and was posted to the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (1 RAR )

His initial training was completed at Kapooka before being stationed at Singleton and then Townsville, On completion of his selection and training course & reinforcement cycle he was posted to the 2nd Commando Regiment in November 2011 - he was on his second tour to Afghanistan

He was an enthusiastic young soldier who was very well respected by his mates from the Regiment

He was deployed on the following Operations

1. Operation Slipper (Afghanistan) Sept. 2009 to Feb. 2010

2. Operation Slipper (Afghanistan) July - August 2012

He died in a helicopter crash on 30th Augus 2012 in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan, he was a member of  the Special Operations Task Group - they were flying in a US Marine Corp. Helicopter at the time

He was brought back to Australia and honoured in a ramp ceremony at the RAAF base at Richmond led by Defence Force Chief, General David HURLEY -His funeral service was held at St Johns Anglican Church , Pilliga & aterwards he was buried in Pilliga Cemetery in country NSW- his name is memorialised at the Australian War Memorial.

His is survived by his parents Wayne & Sally, Sister Elanor, Partner Jessie and a son who had not been born when he died
