Douglas Merson ROBERTSON, O5672/86581 was born on 19 July 1930 at Beverley WA. He attended University of Western Australia and achieved the Junior Certificate in Nov 1945. He completed first year studies in Engineering at the University of WA before enlisting in the RAAF at Pearce base WA on 14 Mar 1949 as a Trainee Radar Mechanic. Later in 1949, he re-mustered to Pilot Trainee and was awarded his Wings on 21 Feb 1951. After graduation he was posted to 77 Squadron Korea on 30 Sep 1951 to fly meteors. He was listed MIA believed killed on 11 Nov 1951, age 21

On 11 Nov 1951, Pilot Officer Robertson was one of 12 x Meteor formation conducting Combat Air Patrol over North Korea. During their return leg, at 24, 000 ftPLTOFF Robertson collided with FLGOFF Blight. PLTOFF Robertson lost his outer port wing and the aircraft immediately went into aspiralling steep dive and crashed at 38 19 00N 126 29 00E. PLTOFF Drummond and Colebrook followed Robertson’s aircraft but did not see any ejection or parachute before Robertson’s aircraft hit the ground. Crash position was listed as TOKYO GRID BT8142 latitude and longitude 38 18 21.25 N 126 29 35.08 E. Incidentally, FLGOFF Blight was able to return to friendly territory where he was able to safely eject and was rescued unhurt.
